As a lover of Japanese cuisine, sushi has always been one of my top picks. I have had the opportunity to try different types of sushi from various restaurants and sushi bars. I must say that our Sushi recipe is one of the best I’ve tried.

Prepare the Sushi Rice

Rinse the sushi rice with cold water until the water runs clear, then let it soak for 20 minutes.

In a saucepan, bring the rice and water to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover with a lid.

Simmer for 18-20 minutes, then remove from heat and let sit for 10 minutes with the lid on.

In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt together until dissolved, then microwave for 30 seconds.

Spread the cooked rice onto a large baking sheet or sushi mat, then pour the vinegar mixture over the rice and mix until well combined.

Prepare the Fillings

Slice the raw fish, avocado, cucumber, and carrot into thin strips.

If using cooked shrimp, chop into small pieces.

Place the fillings in separate bowls for easy assembly.

Assemble the Sushi

Place a sheet of sushi nori shiny side down on a sushi mat or sheet of plastic wrap.

With damp hands, spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.

Add a small amount of filling in a line down the center of the rice, then use the mat to tightly roll the sushi.

Repeat with the remaining nori sheets and fillings.

Serve and Enjoy

Use a sharp knife to cut the sushi rolls into 8 pieces each.

Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
