Boil the water

In a large saucepan, bring the water to a boil over high heat. You can also use an electric kettle to boil the water faster. This step will take about 5 minutes, depending on your stove or kettle.

Add the honey and spices

Reduce the heat to low and add the honey, cinnamon sticks and cloves to the saucepan. Stir well to dissolve the honey and infuse the water with the spices. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add the citrus slices and liquor

Turn off the heat and add the lemon and orange slices to the saucepan. You can squeeze some of the juice into the water if you like. Then, stir in the bourbon or whiskey. You can adjust the amount of liquor according to your taste and preference.
